So when I set up my website I had visions of an inevitable deluge of interest. I'm a digital worker working on the web and what more digital way to attract switched on customers than to give my digital contact info preference? Error. Turns out customers are not quite the technocrats I expected. Here's a typical customer contact:
NEED WEB QUOTE STOP SEND PRICE SOONEST STOP
It turns out that no matter how web-savvy you are, you can't get away from human contact. People will want to talk to you and preferably meet you face-to-face. But that's a great advantage; It's easier to sell your personal brand when you have 100 percent communication going on, instead of 7%. Now I seek out those face-to-face contacts instead of hoping I can convince someone via email that I'm not a wannabe.
Then ... on the odd occasion I'll get a skype message asking about work, and I think, man, I could be doing this from the beach.
Except it's raining.
